Backup and recovery readiness
Backup creates recoverable copies; recovery restores a usable service and its required state. The existence of backup files does not demonstrate that the warehouse can resume within its agreed needs.
How it works in practice
Define recovery objectives, dependencies, responsibilities, and an approved rehearsal process. Verify restored data, application access, interfaces, and operational reconciliation before considering recovery complete.
A warehouse example
A database restores successfully, but connected systems continued processing events during the outage. The team still needs to reconcile those events before ordinary warehouse work resumes.
Illustrative scenario, not a claim about a client engagement.
What to watch for
Do not test disruptive recovery procedures in production without explicit planning and authority. Technical restoration and safe operational restart are separate responsibilities.
A useful question
When was the complete recovery sequence last rehearsed with evidence?
Terminology and configuration differ by product. These notes explain general concepts and are not operating instructions for equipment, a compliance determination, or a replacement for your site’s approved procedures.
