Receiving quality holds
A receiving hold prevents inventory from being used before an authorized decision. It can support inspection, damage review, documentation checks, or other business controls. The exact reason and release authority should be explicit.
How it works in practice
Record the hold against the appropriate inventory scope and confirm its effect on allocation and movement. Provide an owner, review process, and controlled release or disposition transaction. Test downstream eligibility rather than relying on a label alone.
A warehouse example
A pallet awaiting inspection may be physically stored in a shared area. Its system status must still prevent allocation if the approved process requires that restriction.
Illustrative scenario, not a claim about a client engagement.
What to watch for
Moving stock out of a quarantine area must not silently release the hold. Location and inventory status are related controls but are not automatically interchangeable.
A useful question
Who can release the hold, and what evidence supports that decision?
Terminology and configuration differ by product. These notes explain general concepts and are not operating instructions for equipment, a compliance determination, or a replacement for your site’s approved procedures.
