Cluster picking
Cluster picking serves several orders during one route while keeping them separated in designated containers or positions. It differs from collecting a combined batch that is sorted later, although local terminology varies.
How it works in practice
Assign each order to a clear cart position or container, direct the route, and verify both source and destination for each placement. Control reassignment if an order or container changes.
A warehouse example
A cart has six labeled totes. The operator visits an item once but places different quantities into the verified totes associated with the relevant orders.
Illustrative scenario, not a claim about a client engagement.
What to watch for
The system can verify the correct item while the operator places it into the wrong tote. Destination confirmation is therefore a distinct control from source scanning.
A useful question
How is the order-to-container association checked during the route?
Terminology and configuration differ by product. These notes explain general concepts and are not operating instructions for equipment, a compliance determination, or a replacement for your site’s approved procedures.
