Warehouse master data
Master data describes relatively stable entities such as items, locations, customers, suppliers, and packaging relationships. Transactions rely on these definitions. A correct order can still produce wrong work if its underlying item or location data is wrong.
How it works in practice
Assign an owner for each data domain. Define required fields, valid values, change approval, distribution to dependent systems, and a way to test the data in realistic transactions before releasing it.
A warehouse example
An item dimension correction can affect carton selection, slot capacity, and automation eligibility. Check those dependencies rather than assuming the change only improves a descriptive field.
Illustrative scenario, not a claim about a client engagement.
What to watch for
Completeness is not accuracy. A file with no blank cells may still contain implausible dimensions, inconsistent units, duplicate identifiers, or obsolete customer instructions.
A useful question
Which master-data fields can stop or misdirect warehouse execution?
Terminology and configuration differ by product. These notes explain general concepts and are not operating instructions for equipment, a compliance determination, or a replacement for your site’s approved procedures.
