Directed putaway

Directed putaway uses configured rules to recommend or assign a storage destination. The decision may consider item eligibility, capacity, location type, stock rotation, consolidation, and equipment access. A system suggestion still depends on accurate inputs.

How it works in practice

Validate the received inventory and destination constraints, release the movement, and confirm the physical destination. Define what an operator should do when a suggested location is blocked, full, or otherwise unsuitable.

A warehouse example

A full pallet may be directed to reserve storage while a smaller quantity is appropriate for a pick face. The choice should reflect both capacity and the intended downstream workflow.

Illustrative scenario, not a claim about a client engagement.

What to watch for

An override can solve an immediate problem while creating hidden inconsistency. Record the reason and ensure the alternative destination still satisfies required controls.

A useful question

Which putaway overrides repeat often enough to suggest a rule or data problem?
