Warehouse reference · Replenishment & slotting

Slot capacity and cube

Slot capacity describes what a location can safely and practically hold. Cube is one input, but weight, orientation, packaging, access, and physical clearance also matter. Nominal volume is not the same as usable capacity.

How it works in practice

Verify item and location dimensions, permitted orientations, handling units, and relevant limits. Test the actual storage arrangement with operations before relying on calculated capacity in allocation or replenishment.

A warehouse example

Two cartons may have the same volume but different shapes. Only one may fit the shelf opening or stack in the permitted orientation.

Illustrative scenario, not a claim about a client engagement.

What to watch for

System capacity rules support execution but do not replace rack engineering or equipment safety requirements. Use approved limits and qualified site guidance.

A useful question

Are replenishment targets based on verified usable capacity or only estimated dimensions?

Terminology and configuration differ by product. These notes explain general concepts and are not operating instructions for equipment, a compliance determination, or a replacement for your site’s approved procedures.
