Operational reports
Operational reports provide records or summaries needed to manage warehouse activity. Their usefulness depends on correct selection rules, timing, and interpretation. A report can be accurate technically while answering the wrong operational question.
How it works in practice
Define the audience, inclusion criteria, fields, time basis, and expected action. Reconcile samples to source transactions and test filters using known edge cases and incomplete work.
A warehouse example
A backlog report that excludes held orders may understate the work threatening tomorrow’s dispatch. The exclusion needs to be deliberate and visible.
Illustrative scenario, not a claim about a client engagement.
What to watch for
Large exports can expose more data than users need. Apply appropriate access and limit sensitive fields while preserving the information required for the task.
A useful question
Which excluded records could materially change the reader’s conclusion?
