Pick verification
Pick verification confirms that the intended inventory, quantity, and destination are used. Controls can involve location, item, handling-unit, serial, or container scans. More scans are not automatically better; each should address a specific error.
How it works in practice
Identify the failure each check prevents and test it with realistic devices and labels. Include unreadable codes, similar products, partial quantities, and an interrupted confirmation.
A warehouse example
Scanning a location verifies where the operator is, but not necessarily which product was taken. An item or handling-unit check may address a different risk.
Illustrative scenario, not a claim about a client engagement.
What to watch for
Operators may develop workarounds when confirmations do not reflect the physical sequence. Observe actual use and redesign unnecessary friction without removing critical controls.
A useful question
Which verification step prevents the most consequential picking error?
Terminology and configuration differ by product. These notes explain general concepts and are not operating instructions for equipment, a compliance determination, or a replacement for your site’s approved procedures.
