Shipping corrections and reversals
A shipping correction changes a record after some part of dispatch has progressed. Its safe scope depends on physical reality, downstream messages, carrier acceptance, and business permissions. A screen reversal cannot undo a truck departure.
How it works in practice
Establish the actual location and status of the goods, identify affected records, and choose the authorized correction path. Reconcile inventory, orders, labels, carrier records, and financial consequences as applicable.
A warehouse example
A carton marked shipped remains in staging after a loading exception. The team must correct the record without assuming that every unit in the shipment also remained behind.
Illustrative scenario, not a claim about a client engagement.
What to watch for
Reversing a confirmation after another system has acted on it can create mismatched states. Recovery needs coordinated ownership rather than independent fixes in each system.
A useful question
Which events make a simple reversal no longer operationally valid?
